Today, Year 4 were experimenting with Ancient Egyptian rhythms and melodies. We were using violins, flutes, guitars, boom whackers, hand bells, cabassas, tambourines, egg shakers, djembe drums and our voices. Have a listen to our efforts below. We'll soon be composing and recording the children's own compositions.
Cleo (Year 6) was rehearsing Hedwig's Theme (from Harry Potter) with her teacher Ross Williams, so Miss Rusbatch sneaked in to record it. For more information about private music lessons in school, visit the Private Lessons page.
Today was an exciting and unusual day for two Year 3 classes - we experienced Christmas samba workshops, delivered by ex-STOMP performer Ollie Tunmer. Ollie is also the founder and Director of Beat Goes On.
We had a lot of fun learning the different rhythm patterns whilst singing and wearing tinsel and Christmas hats! Ollie's brother Joe was filming the workshop to allow other music teachers to find some Christmas Samba inspiration!

It is still possible to sign-up for Mega Choir and Orchestra. The closing date is Friday 29th September 2017. HANDS UP IF YOU ARE READY TO SING!  WOWEEEEEEEEEEEEE - Mega Choir began with a musical whoosh and a yeah! Thanks for getting out of bed to get to school in time for the beginning of Mega Choir Rehearsal Number One 2017!
If you forgot about today's rehearsal, don't worry, you can start next week. Make sure you've handed in your signed permission form and £10 to the school office. Thank you. Mega Choir begins tomorrow morning. Please do not arrive at school before 07:55. Line up at the main school entrance on Rugby Road. The doors will open at 08:00. Once you have entered the school, put your bags and coats in your lockers, lunch boxes in the trolleys in the playground and enter the hall. In the hall, find the register list for your class and place a tick in the empty box beside your name. Then sit down in a MEGA circle! Enjoy, sing your hearts out and have FUN!  Thanks to the children in Year 5 for creating demonstration videos for some of the many warm up activities we do at Downs Junior School.
 I hope you all had a wonderful summer break and feel refreshed and ready to go at Downs Junior School!  Extra-curricular music clubs will commence the week beginning 18th September 2017. Sign-up forms for this term are available to download below, and on the Clubs pages. Paper copies of the sign-up form are available from the school entrance corridor.
