THANKS for being BRILLIANT!Here's your performance from today's Year 6 Leavers assembly.
One more day in the life of a Downs Junior School pupil. If you want your friends and teachers to sign your year book tomorrow, don't forget to bring it (and a pen) to school.
Music clubs have now ended for this academic year.
They will recommence in September - the week beginning Monday 19th September. New music club sign-up sheets for 2016-2017 will be available (on this website, plus hard copies within school) from the beginning of the new school term (Wednesday 7th September). Have a wonderful summer break everyone. Good luck to our Year 6 pupils - don't stop singing and smiling! Huge congratulations to the Year 6 Team of children and adults who put together an incredible production of Oliver. Today was the fourth and fifth performance and audiences were bursting with pride, and rapturous withe their applause. Well done everyone! Some of the performance videos will be uploaded to the Oliver page ASAP.
Children's laureate, Chris Riddell, visited Downs Junior School last week to allow us a peek into his creative mind, and to talk about the power of books to open doorways into other worlds. Watch the BBC news clip below. Well done particularly to Mr Ringland, Reuben, Kitty, Joshim and Belle who spoke so beautifully when interviewed or reading. Congratulations to Fleur, Rowan, Esme, Phine, Ruby, Lily, Orissa, Joshim and Edi. They performed their own songs to a huge and appreciative audience. For videos, visit the Battle of the Bands 2016 page.
We had a treat on Friday - our voice teacher, Bella, and her students performed a variety of songs - some of which they'd written themselves. Congratulations to all performers - you were confident and professional and VERY talented! Videos will soon be uploaded to the Voice page.
Congratulations to everyone who performed on Wednesday evening, at the Downs Junior School Summer Proms concert. Each and every one of you sang and played your socks and shoes off! Videos and photos will be uploaded to the Summer Concert page soon...
Thank you to everyone who has supported the music clubs and rehearsals and tech set ups this year; especially Mrs Hill, Mrs Webb, Ms Allamby, Mrs Elms, Mr Button and Mr Hearn. REMINDER: Mega Choir, Jam Band, Orchestra, Soloists and the Battle of the Bands top 3 will be performing tomorrow (Wednesday), after school, in the canteen space, 3.30pm - 5.00pm.
The audience will be allowed entry from 3.25pm. Tickets are not required. On Wednesday, our in-school keyboardists performed on stage in the hall. They did brilliantly - calmly and correctly performing their pieces. Some of them were using the left hand and their right hand separately, whilst also controlling rhythms and beats - not THAT's multi-tasking!
Thanks also to our lovely keyboard teacher, Veronica. More information coming soon to the Keyboard page. Congratulations to all of our wonderful guitarists. You performed bravely and brilliantly in today's concerts, to parents and the whole school. As Miss Rusbatch mentioned in the Y5/Y6 concert, performing to an audience is always quite a scary experience. But performing to your friends and family can be a REALLY scary experience, because you really care about what they think and you don't want to make a mistake. Today's guitarists demonstrated how well they can cope with the pressure and fear of performance - they were AMAZING! Well done guys - you were GUITAR-TASTIC! Huge thanks to our guitar teacher, Tom Butterworth. We are incredibly lucky to have such a talented and passionate teacher, working with our young musicians.
