Our Annual Music Industry Enterprise Competition
For the annual Battle of the Bands, Downs Junior School pupils often choose to write their own songs. They then rehearse their song and perform in an audition.
If they make it through to the final, they battle it out against other bands in front of music industry judges. The band with the highest score is crowned the Band Champions.

Below are images of the band Checkpoint - Noah, Jack, Minnie, Samuel, Ted and Luke - recording two of their own songs in the recording studio at the University of Sussex in 2014.
Below are images of the band Video Game (Maude, Nina, Yasmin and Gemma) - winners of Battle of the Bands in 2012. Local international band The Levellers kindly offered the winning band a free afternoon in their recording studios in Brighton: Metway Studios, to record their own EP. Maude had already written a book-full of songs and her friends Nina, Yasmin and Gemma knew most of them, so their recording studio session was efficient and professional and produced some cracking sounds and songs. You can hear their songs on the Battle of the Bands 2012 page.
