RUGBY WORLD CUP CONCERT – INVITATION TO PERFORM
Sunday 20th September 2015 – 2.30-3.00 and 4.30-5.00
The children at Downs Junior School have been rehearsing with Miss Rusbatch for a very special, once-in-a-lifetime, cultural and celebratory event: The talented songwriter James Redwood has been working with children and staff in a number of schools throughout Brighton and Hove, including Downs Junior School. The aim of the workshops was to create original rugby-inspired material (body percussion, beat boxing and songs), the results of which will be performed at a public concert to celebrate the Rugby World Cup (RWC). The RWC is being hosted in England this year with the teams from South Africa, USA, Samoa and Japan being based here in Brighton and Hove.
The event is free and will take place on Sunday 20th September 2015 on a huge stage outside the Unitarian Church on New Road. Please put this date in your diary. We will be involved in two mass-choir performances: 2.30pm-3.00pm and 4.30pm-5.00pm. In addition, there will be countless performances from bands, ensembles and arts organisations from around the city.
DRESS CODE: A top, which is predominantly RED in colour. Black trousers/shorts/skirt.
The event is for children who will be in years 5, 6, 7 & 8 this September. The Year 6 children who are leaving us this year may be moving on to a secondary school that is also taking part. I can confirm that Varndean and Dorothy Stringer Schools are both taking part and will be participating in the same concert with their Year 7 and Year 8 students in September.
Unfortunately, the children who are currently in Year 3 (and will be entering Year 4 in September) are too young to perform on stage at the event, but I’m hoping plenty of you will come in your droves to support the older children and maybe even join in from within the audience.
REHEARSAL: There will be an important rehearsal for everyone who is interested in taking part on Thursday 17th September 3.45pm – 5.45pm at Varndean School.
Further details of this event will be distributed in September.
I’m hoping you all have a lovely summer break and wishing the Year 6 children a wonderfully exciting and smooth transition to Year 7.
Musical regards,
Anna Rusbatch
