Facilitating Song-Writing in a Junior School
Joint Practice Development Day - January 2018
Our Process:
1. Purpose (why compose/write?) 2. Audience (performance opportunities) 3. Research (topic & existing examples) 4. Whose Perspective? (narrative) 5. Emotion (music & evoke) 6. Lyrics (structure & message) 7. Musical Elements (how to create) 8. Chord Patterns (emotion) 9. Melody & Rhythm (compose) 10. Recording 11. Performance Opportunities Our composition and song-writing process evolves organically. We may follow the stages above, we may skip a stage, we may re-visit stages or change the order in which we approach our song-writing journey, but we always focus on the PURPOSE. |
