Molly (5B) hasn't seen her guitar for two weeks. It's likely that another child has mistakenly taken Molly's guitar home, believing it to be theirs. It's a 3/4 size Valencia guitar with nylon strings and a small dint on the head of the guitar, near the tuning pegs. It's in a black case with VALENCIA in white font on the front. If you find Molly's guitar, please return it to the school office, or the music practise room, or to Miss Rusbatch. Thank you.
Today, Jonah, Emile, Dhillon and Arlo wanted to perform their own 'Coconut Song' to the class!
This year's Year 6 Production will be...
If you have any costumes or props that you feel would be suitable for the production,
(and you're happy to lend them to the school until the end of term)
please contact Miss Rusbatch or Mrs Savage with details. Thank you.
Following nearly two years of fundraising, the music iPads have ARRIVED! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our money-raising exploits - especially to the families who have signed-up and paid for extra-curricular music clubs, choirs, band groups and orchestra.
We look forward to sharing some of our compositions and accomplishments
(using music technology) very soon..
All music clubs and ensembles will re-commence this week.
Please ensure you have signed up via ParentPay before the deadline this Friday.
Congratulations to everyone from the Year 4 and Year 5 creative teams for an impressive Brighton Festival parade performance - you looked and sounded wonderful. BRAVO!
Video clips, photos, results and feedback from the judges are now available to view on the Battle of the Bands 2019 web page.
Huge thanks to Yukie Day and Lee Salvidge for taking photos and filming the evening.
Last Friday, our voice students performed to the whole school. During the day on Tuesday, Year 6 were busy rehearsing for and performing in their own 12-bar-blues music videos. Last night was the final of the Battle of the Bands 2019. And today, we were treated to performances by our flute and recorder students.
Well done and thank you to everyone involved.
Updates, photos and video clips will be added to the website over the next few days.

It has taken a few weeks to sink in, but, on Wednesday 6th March 2019, Miss Rusbatch received the Inspiration Award at the national Music Teacher Awards for Excellence in London.
I feel incredibly honoured, humbled, shocked and grateful. This truly is an award for Downs Junior School and our community and is the result of a hugely supportive team of families and school staff. Thank you to everyone and anyone who has been involved in music-related events over the years. Long may music ring through this school! (A. Rusbatch)
Wow! What a week of performances. Well done to everyone who has been busy writing songs and rehearsing. This year, every single band performed their OWN SONG in their audition. That’s AMAZING! You all have so much potential and there is clearly a huge amount of talent in this school.
Every band who auditioned this week can chat with Miss Rusbatch next week at lunchtime for audition feedback. She will tell you what she liked about your song and what went well with your performance. She will also tell you how she thinks your band and your song could be improved.
Today is the last day of auditions for this year's Battle of the Bands.
Well done and thank you to everyone who has auditioned this year.
The standard of song writing and performance has increased, again!
The top 12 bands will be revealed tomorrow (Friday).
All finalists will receive a letter with details about the final.
The judges for the final will be revealed soon.
