Brighton & Hove has a thriving community of young musicians who participate and engage with a wide range of musical styles and genres. Building on this dynamic environment, the Music & Arts service developed Soundmakers, which aims to widen opportunities for children at Key Stage 2 to engage in music.
The Soundmakers programme engages a whole class in creative music making designed to develop instrumental, ensemble and compositional skills. Working with rhythms from genres such as hip hop, funk and samba reggae, the children compose their own lines, learn about structure and are introduced to solos and improvisation. The Soundmakers programme ends with a performance in school to family and friends and all children are offered opportunities to continue to learning a range of instruments or sing. |
